Great Works Dissemination & Appreciation

A great way to feel small and ineffectual is to marvel at the astounding works that have come down to us over the ages, and as well lament the lost pieces which make up the majority of all art ever birthed by mankind.

But in addition to a slack jaw and the remorseless knowledge that we'll never approach beginning to create something as beautiful as a Goya or Da Vinci, we can be stirred to greater sensation.

I'm no connoisseur, nor even a novice, I just know what moves me. This thread is a place to share the works of visual artists (I'll post mainly paintings, maybe sculpture or architecture) whose fragile canvasses we hope wil be preserved for generations to come, and whose genius may yet inspire some youthful eccentric to spatter with their brush and brilliance.

That last one is 500+ years old. Here's hoping it will be around to complete the millennium.

The perspective is said to have been applied from circa 1400 AD. Fra Angelico was clearly still playing around with this. I like the surreal. At the stake are the convicted twin brothers who are said to have been doctors and were beheaded according to wikipedia but are depicted here at the stake. It' also interesting to me that this painting has some resemblance to the works of Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516). Did you think about the person who's standing at the left corner? He was hired to drive people back into the flames! Yikes!

Eddy's paintings can be described as a translation of his thoughts about the timeless feelings and behaviors of 'man'. A real artist is born as an artist. Eddy attended a drawing class at a very young age. The teacher who taught there was a surrealist artist. He saw that Eddy was more than just interested in drawing and painting. This teacher introduced Eddy to his studio. A new world opened for the young Eddy. Eddy was born near Antwerp in Brasschaat. His first exhibition took place when he was only 16 years old.
